It's August Long Weekend, which is often seen as the halfway point of summer. Families across the Pembina Valley are making the most of the season.
For many, summer fun also means heading to the water at Minnewasta Lake. Five-year-old Janelle Wiebe says her favourite place is the lake. “I like to swim,” she said, grinning. “But my favourite part about the water is the floating mat. That’s the best part.”
Some visitors even travelled from out of town, like Bea Kozlowski, who brought her grandchildren from Winnipeg to Lake Minnewasta. “We came out to the beach because we heard about the splash park,” she said. “We thought it would be fun for the grandkids to spend the day.”
With summer already halfway over, families are soaking up every opportunity for fun, from splash pads to days at the beach, and seven-year-old Paige Fehr is already looking forward to what’s next: next weekend’s Winkler Harvest Festival, especially the rides.
