Bringing bluegrass home: 44 years of the Cripple Creek music festival

Manitoba’s 44th Annual Cripple Creek music festival filled the base of the Pembina Hills with the tunes of bluegrass performers both local and national on Sunday, July 27th. The festival is held on Road 27 West, just north of Tinker Creek, and brings in attendees from all throughout North America for its unique sound and location.  

Board secretary treasurer Art Wiebe spent the day organizing performers and meal tickets but stopped to chat about what makes the festival special to him.  

A summer reading club for all kids, big and small— Teen Reads and Bookland Explorers underway in South Central Regional Libraries

For countless summers, the South Central Regional Library has organized a summer reading club aimed at kids aged 5-13 to great success. However, last year was the first year the library ran a summer reading program specifically for teenagers— Teen Reads. Along with the Bookland Explorers program, which is intended for kids under the age of 13, the summer is far from boring at any branch of the South Central Regional Library. 

Keeping it fresh at the Morden Farmers Market  

The Morden Farmers’ Market is in full swing for its 2025 season. Open Thursdays from 4:00pm – 8:00pm from mid-June to early October, the market is already seeing a bumper crop of a season.  

Organized by vendors, for vendors, the market is held on 8 Street in Morden, between Stephen Street and North Railway Street. One of the organizers, Lorna Epp, shared what makes the market special is the sheer variety of vendors and product: “There’s fresh strawberries, there’s fresh vegetables, there is baking of every kind”.

Hold onto your hats, the Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition is back. Running July 18 to 20, Morris is once again hosting the only professional rodeo on Manitoba’s leg of the Canadian Tour circuit, and it’s shaping up to be a record-breaking weekend of thrills, community spirit, and cowboy grit.
