RCMP say three people are facing numerous charges after police vehicles were struck during an attempted traffic stop near Prince Albert this week.

On July 24, around 9 a.m., officers with the Prince Albert RCMP received a report of a wanted man believed to be armed, who was seen driving an SUV on Highway 2 near the Diefenbaker Bridge.

Police say they located the suspect vehicle parked on a service road in Redwing, north of the city. When officers surrounded the SUV and activated their emergency equipment, the driver allegedly reversed into one police vehicle, then drove forward and hit another before the SUV entered a nearby ditch and became stuck.

Two women and a man were arrested at the scene. Police say a loaded rifle was found inside the vehicle.

None of the officers were injured, but both police vehicles were extensively damaged.

Germaine Michel, 33, of Southend is charged with 16 offences, including flight from police, assaulting a police officer with a weapon, dangerous driving and multiple firearm-related charges. He was also arrested on outstanding warrants from Prince Albert Police Service and Correctional Service Canada.

Shelby Donald, 31, of Prince Albert is facing six charges, including unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle and weapons possession contrary to a court order.

Jonie Michel, 25, of Southend is charged with seven offences, also mostly related to firearm possession and breaching release conditions.

Germaine Michel appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday, while Donald and Jonie Michel appeared Friday.

The Prince Albert RCMP Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan and the RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement Suppression Team assisted with the arrests.
