Manitoba RCMP are investigating a pair of drownings that occurred over the long weekend.

Selkirk RCMP are looking into a drowning at Grand Beach that claimed the life of a 25-year-old Winnipeg man on August 2.

Two men had gone out onto the lake on a pool flotation device when they lost their balance and fell into the water. One man was rescued by a nearby kayaker, while the other did not resurface.

Officers responded immediately after being notified at about 8 p.m. Selkirk RCMP, along with the Manitoba Underwater Recovery Team, later located the missing man in the water. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder of water safety risks, especially when using flotation devices on open water.

RCMP continue to urge caution and vigilance around lakes and rivers.

The second incident occurred, on August 2, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Steinbach RCMP were notified of a possible drowning in the RM of Reynolds, at Reynolds Ponds.

Officers responded immediately and, when they arrived on scene, were advised by bystanders that a male had been swimming when he suddenly did not resurface. Bystanders had been searching for the swimmer but were unable to locate him.

The Manitoba RCMP Underwater Recovery Team was deployed to assist officers with the search.

A 70-year-old man from Ontario was later located deceased.

Steinbach RCMP continue to investigate.
