The Saskatchewan Roughriders earned their bye week on Saturday after a dominating 34-6 win over the Montreal Alouettes.
Fresh off being named the top player in the Canadian Football League in the month of July, quarterback Trevor Harris had an impressive outing with a pair of touchdown passes with 289 yards and was over 70 per cent in passing attempts going 19/27.
Tommy Stevens opened the scoring for Saskatchewan as his one-yard touchdown run gave the Roughriders a 7-0 advantage.
In the second quarter, Harris connected with Tommy Nield for a 13-yard touchdown, giving Nield his first touchdown as a member of the green and white.
The teams traded field goals with the Roughriders adding a rouge to lead 18-4 at halftime.
Montreal added another 50+ field goal from Jose Maltos to open the second half, but that was as close as the Alouettes would get.
Following another Brett Lauther field goal, Harris found Keesean Johnson in the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown.
Lauther capped off the scoring with a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter to make the final 34-6.
Dohnte Meyers provided more fireworks on offence with five catches for 136 yards receiving. After eight games, Meyers and Johnson are tied for the team lead in receiving yards with 565.
AJ Ouellette had 74 yards on the ground with Mario Anderson picking up 48 yards on five carries as he made his Roughriders debut.
Mike Rose and Jameer Thurman each had a sack with AJ Allen picking up his second sack of the game.
Not surprisingly a few members from the green and white were recognized by the league with their weekly honour roll as Harris, Thurman and the offensive line were recognized by the CFL for their efforts.
Saskatchewan will enter their second bye week of the season with a four-point advantage over the Calgary Stampeders. The Stamps do own the tiebreaker between the two clubs after their 24-10 win last month. With only one matchup remaining in Calgary on August 23, the Roughriders need to beat the Stampeders by more than 14 points to earn the tiebreaker.
Next up for the Roughriders is a possible Grey Cup preview as the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will visit Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, August 16.
