Alberta communities will get a closer look at ancient life as the Royal Tyrrell Museum marks its 40th anniversary with a series of pop-up exhibits in libraries across the province.
Starting in September, special display cases will tour 10 libraries across the province, including the downtown Red Deer Public Library. Each features fossils and educational material highlighting Alberta’s globally significant contributions to palaeontology.
The year-long initiative is part of the museum’s milestone celebrations and aims to connect with Albertans who may not be able to visit the facility in Drumheller.
“As we celebrate the Royal Tyrrell Museum’s 40th anniversary, we reflect on four decades of scientific discovery, public engagement and a shared passion for Alberta’s rich prehistoric heritage,” said executive director Lisa Making. “This milestone is a tribute to the dedication of our staff, the strength of our partnerships and the millions of visitors who have joined us in exploring the ancient past.”
The Royal Tyrrell Museum, which opened in 1985, is Canada’s only museum dedicated exclusively to ancient life. It welcomes more than 520,000 visitors annually and houses one of the world’s largest displays of dinosaur fossils — many discovered in Alberta’s fossil-rich badlands.
