There has been no sophomore jinx with the Saskatoon Berries in the Western Canadian Baseball League in 2025.

This past weekend, the Berries completed the regular season establishing a new record for regular season, finishing off with a 46-9 record. Saskatoon finished 12 games ahead of Medicine Hat to claim the Eastern Division.

A trio of local players were on the Berries roster this past season.

Pitcher Merek Yeager of Muenster received the opening day start for Saskatoon back in May. He ended the year with a 5-1 record with a 5.10 ERA (earned runs against) 45 strikeouts in 49.1 innings.
Yeager’s best outing was his second last start of the year against Swift Current, tossing 6 innings, only allowing two hits, no runs and had 8 strikeouts.

Dallen Rude of Muenster spent the season as a reliever for the Berries. He had a 3-1 record with a 3.46 ERA along with 19 strikeouts in 26 innings of action.

Cam Marshak of Bruno was on the Berries roster to start the year but was placed on the disabled list in early June. He had a .263 average before he was sidelined.

All three players are members of the Colby Community College Trojan Baseball team.

Now with a taste of regular season success, the Berries are looking for more in the playoffs.

They will begin a best of three series against the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Wednesday in Saskatoon. Game 2 goes Thursday in Moose Jaw and if necessary, Game 3 is Friday back in Saskatoon.

The other series in the Eastern Division will see Medicine Hat square off with the Regina Red Sox.

In the Western Division, the Okotoks Dawgs meet the Brooks Bombers in one series with the Sylvan Lake Gulls and Lethbridge Bulls squaring off in the other series.
