The Mountain View County (MVC) General Election is ramping up with a number of residents putting their names forward for the councillor positions.

Urban municipalities within Mountain View County include the towns of Carstairs, Didsbury, Olds, and Sundre, as well as the Village of Cremona. Each municipality is responsible for electing its own councillors.

The current candidates include:

  • Division One - Dwayne Fulton
  • Division Two - Greg Harris and Arya Ahmadi
  • Division Three - Alan Miller
  • Division Four - Tiffany Nixon
  • Division Five - Angela Aalbers
  • Division Seven - Jennifer Lutz

There are currently no candidates running in Division Six. The current councillors include Angela Aalbers (current Reeve), Dwayne Fulton, Greg Harris, Alan Miller, Tiffany Nixon, Peggy Johnson and Jennifer Lutz.

The election is taking place on October 20. to vote in the election, you must be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen and have been a resident of the local jurisdiction and the specific division within Mountain View County for 6 consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day.

Those interested in running for council can still file their papers as long as it is before September 22.

"It is a candidate’s responsibility to ensure that they meet the requirements described in the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA), the Municipal Government Act (MGA) and the nomination form. By signing the form, the candidate provides a sworn declaration that affirms they meet the necessary requirements," shared MVC.
