As summer comes to an end, a new season will begin. Not just the fall, but election season.
Municipalities across Alberta will vote for council, mayor, and school boards.
As of Tuesday (Aug. 12), eight people in Strathmore have announced a run for council or mayor.
One of those people is banker Jim Chisholm, who has lived in Strathmore since 2013.
Chisholm has worked in the banking industry since 1982.
He retired over a year ago, but was looking for something to get involved with, and council was the way to go.
"I still have a fire in my belly to be involved in growing. So I looked at the council's responsibilities and I thought with my experienced business acumen education, I thought I would be a great candidate for the people here in Strathmore."
According to Chisholm, finance is going to be a big part of his platform.
"My foundation is around the finance part of things. So I'd focus on oversight of budgeting and expense management to ensure that we have a solid base moving forward."
"The second part that I would focus on is how we can balance our residential, commercial, and recreational growth to ensure that we have a great living experience for our residents here in Strathmore."
"Thirdly, I'm a big advocate for small businesses and ensuring that we make it easy to do business and make it easy to get into business here in Strathmore."
He is going to be connecting with voters by hitting the streets and knocking on doors.
"I'm quite excited, it will be fun. I'd like to support our residents here in Strathmore. I know I can bring value to the council position."
Election day is October 20.
