Central Albertans will get a taste of rural life this weekend as farms, ranches, and agri-tourism operators across the region open their gates for the 2025 edition of Alberta Open Farm Days, happening August 16 and 17.
The annual two-day event gives visitors a chance to meet local farmers, tour operations, and see firsthand where their food comes from.
This year’s theme is “Water, The Lifeblood of Every Farm” and highlights the essential role water and irrigation play in Alberta’s agriculture sector and in sustaining the province’s communities.
Right here in Central Alberta, several stops will give residents and visitors a taste of the region, some local participants are;
-
Ellis Nature Centre — Hosting a weekend full of activities tied to the Open Farm Days theme, offering both educational and hands-on experiences.
-
Blindman Brewing — Sharing how local ingredients are transformed into craft beer.
-
Gull Lake Honey — Giving guests a close-up look at beekeeping and honey production.
For over a decade, Alberta Open Farm Days has brought together communities, boosted agri-tourism, and promoted Alberta-made products and is organized in partnership with the Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies, with annual funding from the provincial government to support its growth.
This year, more than 155 farms across Alberta will welcome visitors offering them a “backstage pass” to Alberta agriculture.
