After a burst of heat that brought about near-record temperatures, the southeast is now sliding into a more manageable climate. We'll dip back below the seasonal average, though some constant sunshine will balance that out.
Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Crawford Luke talks about the small storm system we've still got to get through.
"We're still kind of dealing with the cold front just passing through today. So the winds will probably pick up out of the northwest this afternoon and probably cool off tonight. Then this weekend, we're looking a bit cooler for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Some cool mornings with single-digit lows."
After we're through whatever showers stick around today, the southeast will see some ideal weather moving forward.
"Looks like we're going to be into a stretch of pretty sunny weather, too. It's looking pretty dry for a while," said Luke, "So it might actually be some quite beautiful weather, just with some chilly mornings."
For farmers hoping to have crops dry for harvest, the upcoming weather will be perfect for that, according to Luke.
"It looks like this is going to be a much drier air mass that we're dealing with. So I don't think we're going to be seeing the same humidity that we saw with this last air mass that gave us the thunderstorms in other areas yesterday. This would be a much drier air mass where even though it gets warm in the daytime, it'll still cool off at night, and it looks like it's just going to be a lot of sunny days in a row."
It's not all sunshine for farmers, however, as some overnights are dropping dangerously close to freezing, with Luke saying they're keeping an eye on possible overnight frost.
"There's going to be some cool nights this weekend for sure. I'm a little nervous seeing the four or five degrees at night in the forecast, you know, so that's something we'll have to keep an eye on as the weekend draws closer. But it looks like once we're through the weekend, at least I'd feel pretty confident there's going to be no frost for a little while after that."
Temperatures will rise up to seasonal values next week, ending August with a bit of summer warmth.
