The 55+ Summer Games are right around the corner and are coming to Swift Current.
One of the teams participating in the event this year is the Swift Current 55+ Softball team, led by Larry Kozun.
When Kozun heard that the games were hosted in Swift Current, he decided to round up a squad to face off against two teams from Saskatoon and two teams in Regina to bring the pool up to five teams.
"We put together a team of about seven players that play regularly, and about eight guys that haven't played for a few years," said Kozun.
Kozun himself hasn't played in almost 30 years. He has been getting the team and himself into fighting shape with scrimmage games all throughout the last week.
"It's been interesting coming back out to the ballpark," said Kozun. "Like the other eight that haven't played for a while, it's been a lot of fun, but a whole new learning curve."
It is his belief that events like this offer a great opportunity to get out and be involved in the community.
"I was just reading that the City was putting it on, and when the city goes ahead and puts on a 55+ Summer Games, why not support it with the local team?" said Kozun. "That's what we. Thank you very much to the organizers and participants for putting this all together."
The game will begin on August 26 and run through to the 28. Kozun and team will play at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Anyone interested in watching or joining in on some of the tie-in events can read more here.
