Grab your saddlebags and load up your bike because the Rusty Cage Fun Run returns on Saturday.

The annual ride will consist of registration and breakfast at the Eagles in Swift Current from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., kickstands are up and the motorbikes will be rumbling in parade down North Railway Street, up Central Avenue and past Market Square, before hitting the highway to Morse, Hodgeville, Kincaid and Cadillac.

Organizing the ride once again this year is Steve Hamm, CEO of Everything for the Rusty Cage Fun Run.

"Breakfast is open to the public," noted Hamm. "Everyone can come see a bunch of bikes, talk with the bikers, and get to know everyone as we reminisce about fallen friends."

The memorial bike ride is held in honour of all the riders who have departed this life and are riding in the next. Hamm began this ride as a way to commemorate the memory of Simon Dahl. Rusty Cage by Johny Cash was his favourite song, hence the name of this event.

"Unfortunately, our list of fallen friends grows each year," said Hamm. "The support for this ride has always been amazing, so I'll keep it running forever."

For the first 15 years, the event was launched from the Buffalo Brew Pub in Swift Current. Since the venue has closed and the location has rebranded, the Eagles have decided to step in as the starting and ending point of the ride.

Lunch will be served in Cadillac for anyone on the ride. Riders are also invited to buy into the 50/50 and to participate in the dice rolls for a $20 buy-in and $5 for every hand after that.

"The money we raise is 100 per cent donated back into the community," said Hamm.

Hamm ensures the money goes to groups and people who need support, making sure the impact is a local one.

Noted, this event is not for patched riders. Anyone who attends is asked to leave their patch at home.

Anyone with questions can reach out to Steve Hamm by calling 306-774-7783. People can also join the Rusty Cage Fun Run Facebook page for updates and information.

"I'm looking forward to seeing everybody again this year," said Hamm.
