The Blackfalds RCMP Detachment, in partnership with Rural Crime Watch, is inviting everyone to its annual Community BBQ on Wednesday (August 27), from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the detachment (4405 South Street, Blackfalds).
Visitors will have the chance to meet local RCMP officers and staff, enjoy a burger or hot dog, and learn more about the wide range of units and community partners that work alongside the detachment.
Staff Sgt. Andrew Allan the Blackfalds Detachment Commander says the day is about bringing people together in a positive way.
“It is a nice way to showcase some of the partnerships we have within the community and have some interaction with the public that’s not just during a 911 call or on the side of the road,” Allan said. “It’s been a busy summer, and we’re looking forward to these types of connections.”
The event will feature demonstrations and displays from YIELD (Youth Initiative and Education in Lifestyles and Driving), RCMP Police Dog Services, Community Peace Officers, tow trucks, STARS ambulance, and RCMP Air Services.
Recruiting officers will also be on hand to speak with anyone interested in a future with the RCMP.
Families are encouraged to attend, with a bouncy castle planned for children (weather permitting).
Adding a fun twist this year, the weekly flyers promoting the BBQ were designed by the children of RCMP staff members.
“A few of the employees’ families had sent it out to children to do up their own little posters—it’s a fun thing within the office,” Allan explained.
The Community BBQ is designed to bring together residents, emergency service partners, and law enforcement in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere.
