With the first day of school approaching, the City of Lacombe spent the summer completing several infrastructure upgrades as part of the 2025 Capital Works Program.
Much of the work was focused on school areas, with the goal of improving pedestrian safety and student access.
In Terrace Heights, the city installed a new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) crosswalk at the intersection of Terrace Heights Drive and Telford Crescent.
The crossing also includes concrete bulb-outs to improve visibility and act as a traffic-calming measure.
A new sidewalk was built along the east side of Telford Crescent, between Terrace Heights Drive and Taylor Drive, creating a continuous pedestrian route to Terrace Heights School.
As part of the upgrades, the crosswalk at Trinity Street and Terrace Heights Drive was removed, with the new crossing at Telford Crescent providing a safer alternative for students and families.
Paving was also completed along C&E Trail in front of Terrace Heights School, from 63 Avenue to the traffic circle.
Some paving work will continue into early September at the intersection of Terrace Heights Drive and Telford Crescent.
The city is reminding drivers to watch for flaggers and follow posted signage during this time.
