Back-to-school season got a flavorful boost at the Estevan Co-op, where young shopper Rayna was treated to a one-of-a-kind experience. A Snack Attack Shopping Spree alongside Cooper the mascot.
The event is part of a new initiative launched by Southern Plains Co-op to bring excitement and community spirit to the end of summer. Children aged 5 to 12 were invited to enter a contest for a chance to win a $100 Co-op gift card and a personalized shopping experience to stock up on their favorite back-to-school snacks.
“We wanted to try something new and different for back to school to create a little bit of excitement,” said Brooke Spagrud, Marketing Manager at Southern Plains Co-op. “It’s not just about the snacks, it’s about making memories and celebrating the season with our community.”
Rayna’s shopping spree was filled with smiles, snacks, and fist bumps from Cooper. Among her haul was a giant pack of Oreos, which she said Cooper insisted she grab. “He wanted me to get a giant pack of Oreos,” Rayna laughed.
Spagrud, who joined Rayna along with grocery manager Tyson and several team members, said the event was a hit with shoppers and staff alike. “We had a great turnout. Parents, onlookers, and even some of our regular customers stopped to watch and cheer her on. It was a really fun morning.”
The Snack Attack contest isn’t limited to Estevan. Winners are also being celebrated in Oxbow and Carlyle, with each location hosting its own shopping spree. “We awarded one winner in each of our food stores,” Spagrud explained. “It’s a great way to connect with families across our communities.”
As the school year approaches, Spagrud offered a cheerful reminder: “Enjoy your last week of summer holidays because school will be here before we know it. And if mom and dad are looking for some back-to-school snack ideas, we’ve got lots of things in our stores to help them out.”
The Southern Plains Co-op continues to find creative ways to engage with the community, and the Snack Attack Shopping Spree is just one example of how a simple idea can turn into a joyful experience for families.
