The Innovation Federal Credit Union offered up a substantial donation earlier this week to help a local non-profit start up a new literacy project.

Riding off the back of the announcement that the Southwest Literacy Committee is this year's recipient of the esteemed provincial award on Monday, the organization was thrilled to also receive the $10,000 donation from Innovation Federal Credit Union.

Bula Ghosh, literacy coordinator and member of the Southwest Literacy Committee, revealed that the funds will support the initiation of a new outdoor reading program in the works called Story Walk.

"Each page will be shown on a post, and they can walk and read," she said. "It's going to be most likely in the Kiwanis Park, but we haven't confirmed yet.

"Working in collaboration with the City of Swift Current and Innovation Federal Credit Union's grant, the project has become possible.

"Children can walk around and read a story so they don't have to be confined in a home," said Ghosh. "During the summer time, this will be a good outdoor activity as a family, and learning can be done in so many different ways."

Additionally, the organization is working on a literacy project with a local business that will be announced in a couple of months.
