This year’s Terry Fox Run is gathering support from the community.
The theme of this year’s event is “Finish It,” which amplifies the Terry Fox Foundation’s desire to find a cure for cancer, as well as finishing the Marathon of Hope, which was cut short in September of 1980.
Swift Current residents are invited to join the local event this Sunday. Kim Targerson, event organizer, explains how anyone can get involved.
“People can choose on Sunday to just walk up to our table and sign up,” she said. “We will make sure that you're registered even if you haven't collected pledges. Bring it to me and come for a walk.”
Targerson said the event will run regardless of weather conditions.
Those wishing to participate in another way are more than welcome to.
“You can walk, run, skate, bike, or stroll, and it is pet-friendly,” said Targerson. “We will have a 5-kilometer route marked out, but maybe people with little ones would like to choose to only do 1 kilometer and turn around. People are welcome to do whatever they choose.”
The run will commence on Sunday, September 14, at Riverdene Park.
