Preseason hockey is underway in Estevan, offering fans an early look at their local teams.

Last night, the Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins hosted the Weyburn Red Wings and suffered a 10–3 loss. The two teams will meet again tonight at Affinity Place, with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m., continuing the Highway 39 rivalry.

The Bruins are coming off a difficult 2024–25 season, finishing 10th in the SJHL with 43 points and a record of 18-31-5-2. As they enter preseason play, the focus is on refining their lineup, building team chemistry, and giving younger players a chance to prove themselves. Coaches hope these early games will help the team gain momentum and close the gap with stronger opponents.

Meanwhile, the  U18 AAA Innovex Estevan Bears are on the road tonight to face the Notre Dame Hounds, with puck drop also set for 7 p.m. The Bears finished 7th last season with 47 points, while the Hounds ended at the bottom of the standings with just 13 points. Preseason offers the Bears a chance to test new offensive combinations and evaluate rookies who are eager to make an impact.

With both teams in action this week, Estevan hockey fans can expect fast-paced games and a preview of the talent and strategies that will shape the upcoming season.
