Estevan’s United Way campaign got a boost this week as SaskPower staff and executives joined the kickoff event to show their ongoing support for local initiatives. The utility has been a major contributor to the organization, donating nearly $1.6 million since 2011.
Speaking at the event, Brittany Brokenshire, this year’s United Way president, expressed gratitude for the company’s long-standing support. “You guys are one of the biggest contributors to our campaign every year. Since 2011, it’s been almost $1.6 million. That is an incredible amount, and it all stays here to support our member agencies and community programs,” she said.
SaskPower representatives also highlighted the importance of community involvement. “25 to 33 percent of our annual donation comes from our staff during the course of our employee contribution program,” one spokesperson said, emphasizing that contributions are driven by employees’ engagement and generosity.
Doug McDavid from SaskPower praised the volunteers and United Way staff. “Just really wanted to take advantage of this direction in town. The Executive and the Board of Directors is here now. I really encourage everyone to get involved with the United Way campaign,” he said, adding, “Tremendous thanks to all our communities across the region. Great job and a big shout also to the staff here, they always do such a fantastic job raising money for very important causes.”
The event also welcomed new United Way board members, giving them a chance to connect with SaskPower employees. “We just wanted to express our gratitude to you guys,” Brokenshire added. “You are really important to the success of our campaign, and we do really appreciate it.”
Attendees were encouraged to get involved through payroll deductions and other forms of support over the coming weeks, with United Way and SaskPower stressing the importance of local engagement in creating lasting community impact.
