The Estevan Public Library is keeping the community engaged with a variety of free programs for all ages, from teens and tweens to adults.

Teen Programs

Lyn Vilcu, the library’s teen programmer, says teens have a lot to enjoy, including arts and crafts, painting, cooking, and the popular Teen After Hours. “We shut the library down, let the kids go wild with laser tag and games, and of course, we have snacks, because that’s the way to a teen’s heart,” Vilcu said. Some events are held on-site at EPYC or SWIS, giving participants more space to play. One recent Teen After Hours featured a scavenger hunt through the leisure center, highlighting Bruins history and building sponsors. Domino’s Pizza generously donated pizza for the event, reflecting the community’s strong support for library programs.

Adult Programs

Adult programming is also thriving. Anna Lawrence, the library’s adult programmer, highlighted popular activities such as paint nights, the Books and Bites book club, diamond dot art nights, and even an adult Lego club. “It’s fun to see everyone’s different interpretations of the painting or work on a Lego set together,” Lawrence said. The book club meets monthly and provides books in a “book club in a bag” format, along with snacks and discussion.

Upcoming Events

Looking ahead, the library will host the Imagination Book Fair on September 20, featuring 17 local authors covering everything from children’s books and comics to nonfiction and true crime. Attendees will have a chance to meet authors, purchase books, and get signed copies.

Vilcu and Lawrence both emphasize that all library programs are free and encourage the community to participate. “Community involvement is how we keep the library thriving,” Vilcu said.
