The NextAcre Real Estate Grain Rush is rolling through Southeast Saskatchewan, delivering meals and thanks to the farmers who help keep the region fed. This week, the crew stopped near Macoun to visit Kory Pick, the latest Grain Rush winner.

Pick says harvest is going well this year, with strong yields and good progress. “Ah, pretty good. Good yields and we're making progress,” he shared. The warm, dry weather has helped the family push through their crops, particularly durum. “Absolutely, it has. It's let us get through a whole slack load of Durham,” he added.

In addition to durum, the Pick farm grows barley and canola, and the family is nearing the end of their durum harvest. They also raise cattle, which are mostly grazing on pasture this time of year. “Yeah, they're basically just doing their own thing on the pasture. And when we get a spare minute, we'll drive out and make sure they're all still there and on the right side of the fence,” Pick said.

Farming is a family tradition for Pick. He grew up on the farm with his parents, and now he farms with his wife while their children are starting to get involved. “It's just I grew up farming with my mom and dad, and now my wife and I are farming, and our kids, they're getting older, getting involved as well. So I guess it's generational,” he explained.

As part of his Grain Rush win, Pick and his family will receive a full KFC meal delivery from Discover Estevan and KFC Estevan, a small way to thank them for their hard work feeding Southeast Saskatchewan.

The NextAcre Real Estate Grain Rush continues across the region until September 19, with more farm visits and meals heading to hardworking farmers.
