SaskPower and the Estevan United Way marked a day of celebration as the community came together to highlight their longstanding partnership and the impact of local fundraising efforts.
Howard Matthews, Vice President of Generation with SaskPower, spoke on the importance of community support in Estevan and across Saskatchewan. He said SaskPower has always been a strong supporter of United Way, recognizing the essential services it provides. Matthews pointed out that facilities like Shand Power Station and Boundary Dam have not only powered the province for decades but also served as anchors of the local economy.
He also highlighted the community’s role in supporting coal refurbishment projects and expressed gratitude for the strong backing in exploring nuclear power as a future option. Matthews noted that Estevan and Coronach have been key to sustaining Saskatchewan’s energy needs while fostering strong local ties.
With SaskPower employees contributing to United Way campaigns for years, more than 1.6 million dollars has been raised for local organizations. Matthews credited both the dedication of workers and the generosity of the community, saying the contributions make a meaningful difference to individuals and families throughout the province.
The collaboration between SaskPower and United Way continues to show how community support and industry partnerships can shape the future for Southeast Saskatchewan.
