The Estevan Viragos will host their first home game of the season Sunday afternoon at Woodlawn Athletic Field, taking on the Yorkton Lady Gridders in Prairie Girls Football League action.

“We had a few away games to start the year and I’m very excited to finally have a home game coming up this Sunday,” said head coach Matthew McGillivray.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

“We've got a well-rounded group, so honestly, I'm really excited to showcase it,”

McGillivray said the team has been working hard throughout the summer to prepare for the season and expects a competitive matchup.

“Yorkton is a very strong program, so it'll be a tough game for us, but we're looking forward to having fun and showing what we can do,” he said.

The Viragos roster includes a mix of returning players and new talent. McGillivray highlighted several athletes expected to make an impact.

“Bella's doing well, she's starting on defence, so I'm looking forward to seeing how she does,” he said. “Morgan Hase, she's always a strong player on offence, same as Aurora McCutcheon. And then we got a couple of people that play both ways, like Sophia and Cass.”

The Viragos compete in the Prairie Girls Football League, Saskatchewan’s first U18 female tackle football league.
