Habitat for Humanity Red Deer has broken ground on its newest affordable home at 2 Adamson Avenue.

The ceremony was held Wednesday and began with a land blessing by Elder Lynn Jonasson, followed by remarks from Habitat Red Deer CEO Bradley Blois, board chair Adam Goodwin and Red Deer Mayor Ken Johnston.

Blois said the event was especially meaningful as it marked his first groundbreaking since taking on the role of CEO.

“It’s a privilege to join Habitat for Humanity’s mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope,” he said. “I am truly grateful for the staff, volunteers, and partners who have carried this important work forward, and I look forward to building on that foundation with intention, gratitude, and heart.”

Goodwin emphasized the long-term value of the project, calling the home “an investment in the future of our community and in the well-being of a local family.”

The event drew community partners, volunteers, media and supporters, and concluded with a photo opportunity and media interviews.

The build is part of Habitat Red Deer’s no-down-payment, interest-free mortgage program, which has helped families across Central Alberta since 1994. With this groundbreaking, the organization has now started work on its 51st home in the region.
