Estevan’s junior hockey clubs were both in action over the weekend, with mixed results on the ice.
The SJHL’s Estevan Bruins wrapped up their preseason schedule with two losses to the Virden Oil Capitals. On Friday at Affinity Place, the Bruins fell 4–3 in a shootout, before dropping a 5–0 decision in Virden the following night. The Bruins now prepare for the regular season, which begins Friday in Melville. The home opener is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Affinity Place, also against the Millionaires.
The Estevan Bears, meanwhile, are still in the middle of their preseason. They impressed with an 8–2 win over Notre Dame, led by a four-goal effort from Gunner Moore. Joe Watson, Rhys Petersmeyer, Kale Kuchinka and Owen Pushie also scored, while Jaxon Kuchinka and Evan Hutcheon shared goaltending duties. The Bears continue preseason play Friday, Sept. 19, when they host the Southwest Cougars (MB) at 7:30 p.m. at Affinity Place.
