With some recent rainfall over the weekend, the Enduro races at the Estevan Motor Speedway ended up getting pushed back by a week. Those races usually cap off the racing season for the speedway, being their final set of races for the season.
President Brad Pierson says they cancelled to keep the experience dry for the spectators.
"On Saturday, we were really hoping to get it in, but we didn't want to make a huge mess out of our parking lot and our pits, and the track probably would have been fine, but we also didn't want zero fans in the stands."
"So then we looked to do it on Sunday, but we just took on too much rain on Saturday to pull off a successful event. So we decided to try to run it this upcoming Saturday, with a start time of 2 p.m., and I think we'll have more cars than we would have this weekend."
While a couple of weeks ago the Speedway was hoping for more racers signing up, they've since broken their goals for the event, and Pierson hopes the extra time brings even more drivers to the track.
"Our numbers did come up when we were starting to panic a bit, and I think we would have been well over the 30 cars in the end that we needed. I can't tell you how many that we have pre-registered, but I'm confident that we'll be in better shape this weekend than we would have been this past weekend."
While normally pushing an event further into the fall can be worrying, in case of a potential cold snap, Pierson says he's confident the event will be a warm one for fans.
"I'm not too worried about temperature. It looks like it should be good, but we've had some awful cold Enduros and even our normal races at times, so there is not a certain temperature we're looking to hit, but let's say it came Saturday and it was 100 kilometre winds and cold, then we'd have to look at doing something, but I'm very confident we can pull it off this coming Saturday."
Pierson says anyone looking for more info on how to buy tickets or sign up for the Enduro Race themselves can see that on Estevanmotorspeedway.com.
