With the nomination deadline less than a week away, two candidates have submitted their intention to run for the two school trustee positions available in the Cochrane ward of Rocky View Schools (RVS).
Current RVS board chair Fiona Gilbert and Pamela Peters have filed their intentions to seek the two seats up for grabs in the Oct. 20 election. It will be the first time Cochrane has two representatives on the board.
Joanna Brownlee has filed her intention to run in Ward 4, which covers the rural area surrounding Cochrane, including Westbrook, Springbank, and Bragg Creek.
The deadline to file nomination papers for the RVS Board of Trustees is Monday, Sept. 22, at noon. Prospective candidates must submit their forms to Returning Officer Michelle Groff at the RVS Education Centre in Airdrie (2651 Chinook Winds Dr. S.W.).
Trustees elected on Oct. 20 will serve four-year terms, through to the next general election in October 2029. They are responsible for representing community priorities, guiding division policy, allocating resources, and monitoring student and operational performance. Their work follows the goals and outcomes outlined in RVS’ four-year strategic plan.
The eight-member board represents five wards, urban and rural, and advocates for more than 29,200 students across 53 schools and roughly 3,000 staff. The division arcs around Calgary’s west, north, and east boundaries.
