The Saskatchewan RCMP have reported that a second vehicle was struck by a bullet on Friday night just outside of Weyburn. The news comes as they continue their investigation into the fatal shooting of a Weyburn woman who was the passenger in an SUV approaching Weyburn on Highway 39.
In a release issued Tuesday morning, the RCMP stated they had received a report from a member of the public on Saturday. The person making the report stated they were on Highway 39 Friday night, and may have been behind the Ford Explorer. They heard what sounded like two pops, similar to the sound of rocks hitting the windshield. There was no damage to any windows, but they noted their tire was flat on Saturday. Not knowing if it was connected to the ongoing investigation, they reported it.
The tire of the SUV was inspected by the Regina RCMP Forensic Identification Section, and it was determined that the tire was damaged by a gunshot. Investigators also confirmed that the SUV was travelling a close distance behind the Ford Explorer and ultimately passed it, continuing towards Weyburn after the incident occurred.
The driver of the second vehicle was unaware of the incident involving the occupants of the Ford Explorer and did not report any injuries to police. They did not know the occupants of the Ford Explorer.
Police continue to investigate the shooting and ask the public to share any information they have by calling 310-RCMP (7267), or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477 (TIPS).
