Steinbach RCMP arrested a parent at a local school last week for causing a disturbance.

On Wednesday, Blumenort School sent a letter to parents informing them of an incident that occurred earlier in the day. The letter stated that the school was placed in a lockdown in response to a parent who entered the building and became verbally aggressive towards staff. The letter stressed that students were not involved at any point and were kept safe in their classrooms. It said RCMP attended promptly, and the situation was resolved without further escalation.

According to Steinbach RCMP, on Wednesday at 11:45 am, a school in the Hanover School Division requested the immediate assistance of police. It was reported that the school was in a lockdown as a parent was causing a disturbance by shouting, uttering threats, and throwing punches towards staff members.

Steinbach RCMP immediately attended and arrested an adult male who was still roaming the school.

Following the arrest, the 43-year-old male suspect allegedly threatened to harm and fight police. He has been charged with assault and four counts of uttering threats.

The male was remanded into custody on Thursday and released the next day with court-imposed conditions.

Steinbach RCMP continue to investigate.

Blumenort School says it takes the safety and well-being of students and staff very seriously and will continue to work closely with RCMP and Hanover School Division to ensure a safe learning environment. The school thanks students and staff for their cooperation during this situation.
