Mayor Funk praises cultural celebration as Summer in the City begins
Steinbach’s summer street festival is officially underway as Summer in the City takes over Main Street for a weekend full of music, food, fun, and community connection.
The celebration launched Friday morning with the Steinbach Credit Union pancake breakfast, marking the start of a three-day festival that runs through to Sunday — which also happens to be Father’s Day.
Police respond to Friday night incident at Summer in the City
An altercation Friday evening at Summer in the City in downtown Steinbach prompted a police response, and organizers say safety remains a top priority.
Graham Pollock, operations chair for the annual festival, says he was made aware that someone had been arrested following the incident, which happened at the intersection of Main Street and Reimer Avenue at around 8:40pm.

Fred Wanke, 90, of Menisino passed away Sunday, January 26th at Vita Personal Care Home. He is survived by his wife Margit, 5 sons, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and their families. He was predeceased by 1 son, 1 brother, and 2 brothers-in-law.
A memorial service for Fred Wanke will be held Saturday, June 21st at 11am at Birchwood Funeral Chapel.

Measles exposure reported at Steinbach QuickCare Clinic
Public health officials are alerting the public to four new measles exposure sites in Manitoba, including a location in Steinbach.
According to Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care, individuals who visited the Steinbach QuickCare Clinic at 381 Stone Bridge Crossing on June 10 between 12:50 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. may have been exposed to measles. Those affected are asked to monitor for symptoms until July 2.

Tommy Holstein appeared before Council Wednesday morning. Holstein wants to build a house at 62 Harvest Bay. He told Council that within this house he would like to include a basement suite for his parents. Holstein needed conditional use approval, as the neighbourhood is zoned R1 or single-family residential.

Local hiker and traveler Bailey Braun decided to take on the base camp Everest as her next adventure.
“I previously backpacked South America for three months. I did some trekking in Peru, in Chile, and in Argentina, which was quite phenomenal, to say the least.”
Braun says that during her travels she met an old man who encouraged her to go to Nepal and take on Everest.
