Grain Rush rolls out to Fern Acres in Storthoaks

Grain Rush is rolling on across the southeast, with farmer Dale Cowan the latest winner out in Storthoaks.

Cowan and his crew of 11 have been working hard to bring in this year’s crop. He shared that the team has been growing “wheat, peas, oats, canola, that’s about it,” and that the harvest is moving along well.

When asked how much progress has been made so far, Cowan estimated “maybe 45, 50 percent,” adding that the sunshine has been helping keep things on track. “Nice,” he said when asked about the weather, noting that the good conditions are making a difference. The rain was fine until now.

Cowan and his crew were treated to a KFC harvest meal on Tuesday as part of the Grain Rush celebration. The whole crew is family-oriented, and that's why he got into farming was because of his own father, and he started farming in 1987.
