Lacombe Minor Baseball will celebrate two of its teams with a banner-raising ceremony at Diamond Edge Baseball on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
The U11 Community A Tier 4 and U18 AA Tier 6 Dodger squads will see their provincial banners raised for the first time at the new facility that helped develop their game.
Opened in February, the Diamond Edge facility has been a “huge factor” in player growth, said Shannon Bruns, president of Lacombe Minor Baseball.
The facility is owned by vice-president Doug Astles, who, alongside his family, has worked to create a state-of-the-art training space east of Lacombe.

Bruns said the association’s success goes beyond championships.
“Successes in wins and losses and banners won, obviously, but also in the development of the entire program and the growth in Central Alberta baseball,” she said. “Baseball has grown exponentially over the last three seasons ... and Lacombe is recognized as one of the strongest associations in Zone 4.”
Bruns encouraged the community to attend the event, noting that local support has made the program’s growth possible.
“There are the families right here in our community that are supporting the youth and the next generation through the love of a game. We wouldn’t be able to do any of this without the coaches, the families, the sponsors and the community support that we have for Lacombe Minor Baseball.”
