Estevan’s mural scene continues to grow thanks to the work of local artist and business owner B.J. Zieger. Zieger, who owns Lucky Buddha Tattoo, recently completed a mural featuring a horse in a wheat field under a prairie sunset.
The project came together through the Estevan Arts Council, which approached Zieger about creating a new piece. After scouting locations, Lisa at Exhale Yoga and Wellness offered her wall to host the artwork. “It’s just a horse in a wheat field with a sunset, and the Arts Council just approached me to do a wall, and we kind of scouted around, and luckily Lisa at Exhale was kind enough to let us use her wall,” Zieger said.
He explained the inspiration was to create something that represents the local way of life. “We just wanted to do something close to Estevan life. Something that represents the farming community and kind of everything around here,” he said.
This is not the first mural Zieger has brought to the community. At Woodlawn Regional Park, he completed a football mural last year, which was recently joined by a soccer mural on the other side. “They do football and soccer, so they kind of wanted to appease both crowds, so they just got the soccer one on the other side,” Zieger explained.
Zieger said he is happy to contribute to Estevan’s growing public art displays, noting that murals not only brighten the community but also reflect its values and culture.
