Cochrane is set to host its first-ever Grand Parade this Saturday, a national fundraising walk that honours and supports aging Canadians.

“The Grand Parade is all about helping our aging family members, friends, and neighbours,” said Jeremy Coulter, Program Operations Coordinator at the Seniors on the Bow Centre. “With today’s economy, resources and programs are shrinking while costs are rising. This event helps us raise the funds we need to provide support, activities, and opportunities for seniors to stay active in the community.”

The event begins at 10 a.m. in the curling rink parking lot behind the SLS Centre, with speeches at 10:30 and the walk kicking off at 11.

Participants can choose between a two-kilometre or five-kilometre route, followed by a light lunch. Registration can be done in advance online or on-site the day of the event.

Coulter said the response has already been strong, with fundraising teams embracing costumes, creativity, and competition.

“Our goal is $20,000, and we’re already more than halfway there. We’re feeling very positive about reaching it.”

The parade is open to all ages, and organizers hope it will become an annual tradition in Cochrane.
