Ricky Manz, owner of the decommissioned Richmound School that once housed self-proclaimed “Queen of Canada” Romana Didulo and her followers, appeared in Leader Provincial Court on Thursday, Sept. 18, following his release from custody on Sept. 9.
Manz, who has retained new legal counsel Greg Dunn of Calgary, appeared in court as proceedings were adjourned to Oct. 1 to allow time for confirmation of his retainer and council arrangements. He is scheduled to attend Swift Current Provincial Court at 1:30 p.m. on that date.
During his initial release hearing on Sept. 9, Manz agreed to strict conditions with the Crown, including remaining at his Richmound residence between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., avoiding contact or publishing material referencing RCMP officers and town officials involved in his charges, and having no direct or indirect contact with Didulo.
Manz faces multiple charges, including failing to comply with an undertaking condition, intimidation of justice system participants, three counts of assault, resisting arrest, mischief for damaging a police radio, uttering a threat, and obstructing a municipal employee.
The Richmound school was vacated following a Saskatchewan Health Authority order after it had been used as a base by Didulo’s “Kingdom of Canada.” Local officials, including Mayor Brad Miller, have indicated interest in seeing the building demolished.
The case will return to court on Oct. 1 for confirmation of legal representation and further proceedings.
Didulo is also facing charges of failing to comply with an undertaking condition and intimidation of justice system participants. Her preliminary inquiry is set for March 2nd in Swift Current.
