An RCMP officer was injured Sept. 17 after a stolen truck rammed a police vehicle in Eden Valley.

Mounties say an officer was responding to a report of a stolen GMC Sierra around 6:30 p.m. when the truck swerved and hit the police cruiser on Stoney Trail Road. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and airbags deployed.

Despite injuries, the officer arrested the lone driver, 18-year-old Shantaya Lefthand of Eden Valley.

She is charged with assault with a weapon causing bodily harm, dangerous and impaired driving causing bodily harm, theft over $5,000 and mischief over $5,000.

The officer was treated in hospital in Calgary and has since been released.

Lefthand was released after a bail hearing and is due in Alberta Court of Justice in Diamond Valley on Oct. 14.
