Mounties now investigating found human remains as a homicide

The RCMP says that it is now investigating found human remains in the RM of Woodlands as a homicide.

Stonewall RCMP received the report of the found remains on the evening of March 30. They were located on Road 79 North in the RM. Investigators, including the RCMP Forensic Identification Services and an anthropology team, searched the area.

The RCMP says an autopsy was performed last week, and while the investigation is still in its early stages they had enough evidence to believe the body was placed there in the winter.

A spokesperson with the RCMP says that the body was discovered "when a dog began bringing bones to a nearby home."

Mounties say that the identity of the remains is still unknown at this time. The RCMP's Major Crime Services continues to investigate.

The RM of Woodlands is approximately 30 KM northwest of Winnipeg.
