The Herman Prior Center helped Portagers experience a blast from the past last weekend with vintage cars from the 1950s, but unfavourable weather influenced the attendance of the community.
The event happened this past Saturday, June 18th, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Executive director of the Herman Prior Center, Kathy Bryce, explains the turnout was not quite on par with the last couple of years.
"The weather was not in our favour for sure. It was so windy out that I think people just didn't want to bother coming out."
Bryce mentions that although the turnout wasn't great, the community still supported the event by buying a number of hamburgers and plants.
She adds that the centre plans to have another Car Hop in August.
"This time, we're going to try it on a Thursday evening, probably from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. So, we'll try that, around supper time and hope for some better weather."
Bryce says that even if you aren't a massive car enthusiast, you can still have a great time looking at vintage cars, listening to music and dancing.
"I would encourage anyone to come out and come enjoy the cars, the music and help a great cause that is the Herman Prior Centre."
She concludes that the centre is looking forward to holding another Car Hop in August and having the parking lot hopping with cars.
"We're just looking forward to holding another one in August and have our parking lot hopping with cars."
