When it comes to success in golf, Rick Hallberg is no stranger to it. Coming into the Provincial Senior Men’s Championships in Estevan this week, he had won two of the previous three titles.
After the opening two rounds, Tuesday and Wednesday, Hallberg found himself sitting in second place, four strokes back of the leader. He had his work cut out for him in the final round Thursday afternoon.
Hallberg would finish the day with a 72, and then it would come down to how those around him on the leaderboard would finish the tournament. The leader heading into the final round, Colin Coben, would end up having a rough day, shooting an 8-over 80. This would be enough for Hallberg to close the gap, and he held on to win the tournament at a 1-over 217 for the three days.
The championship win is the second in a row for Hallberg, who also won the Mid-Master's tournament with a score of 217. This is the second year in a row Hallberg has won that title as well.
The win has Hallberg now off to the Canadian Senior Men’s Championship, which is scheduled for Red Deer from September 6th to 9th. Hallberg has also earned an exemption to play in the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship, August 23-26th in Thornhill, Ontario.
