Elsie was predeceased by her parents John and Annie Hordeski, siblings Andrew, Mike (Katie) William (Olive), Nicholas (Mary), Mary, Rosie (Fred), Peter (Dorothy) and Harry.
Mom was born in the Municipality of Glenella MB on August 22, 1928. She lived in Amaranth, Manitoba with her parents and siblings till she moved to Portage la Prairie, where she met her husband Bernard. Elsie and Ben were married in 1948. During their years together they raised 6 daughters. Most of Mom’s working career until retirement was at the Portage District General Hospital where she met and made her lasting friendships with her colleagues.
The well-being of Moms family was most important to her. Mom loved giving gifts to her daughters, grandchildren, close friends, family and strangers. If you were lucky to receive a flower arrangement you could see the detail she put into them. Along with her homemade Christmas decorations her and dad made to display in their home. Mom enjoyed spending a couple of dollars at the casino or horse races with Dad and family. Mom always managed to pick the winning horse. Mom always had a reason to go shopping which is prevalent in her daughters and grandchildren today, whether it was for clothes, junk food, or shop for the necessities with Ben (Mister). Mom always made sure her family was taken care by cooking. In which she prided herself on from her special chicken noodle soup, cabbage rolls, coleslaw, rice pudding, pies and many other counter filled desserts. Mom enjoyed music, dancing, and singing which she continued to do weeks before passing. She enjoyed watching her family sing, dance, play sports and attended school activities. She was always their number one fan. There was never a dull moment in Moms life, (they say she was always running). Mom was a hard worker, a free spirit with a fiery personality. Mom ended her day with a cup of tea with Mister in the gazebos, over looking their garden, watching the birds and animals that would visit the yard.
Anybody who had the fortune of meeting her were instantly charmed by her friendly smile, infectious laugh and cute stature. Mom enjoyed many activities in life, but what she enjoyed and devoted her time with was making memories with her family.
The family expresses their gratitude towards Dr. Jim Price, Dr. Russel Price and the staff of Portage District General Hospital for taking care of our Mother.
