Marga Vieweg passed away after a short illness on August 15, 2022 in Portage la Prairie at the age of 95 years.
Marga was predeceased by her husband Wolfgang in 2010 and is survived by her sons Steven (Jill), Mark (Christina), Eric (Wendy) and Ralph; daughter Barbara (Thomas) Shumski; grandchildren Monica (Kris), Lisa (Michael), Richard (Renee), Meghan, Cameron, Jessica (Jay), Benjamin, Samuel (Ali), Cathy, Natasha (Ryan), Erica (Shaun) and Dale; great grandchildren Rubee, Ryder, Orrin, Zev and William; former daughter-in-law Elizabeth; and many relatives in Germany, especially Matti Hartung, Rostock, Germany that the family has been in close contact with over the years.
Marga was born and raised in Berlin, Germany. In 1955 she and Wolfgang immigrated to Canada and settled in Quebec. Marga was devoted to raising their family of five children. Later, in The Pas, Manitoba, Marga enjoyed working at Kerr’s Fur for many years and formed deep friendships with the Rickborn family. Marga enjoyed reading, gardening, needlework such as crocheting, knitting and embroidery and keeping in touch with her relatives in Germany.
Marga loved animals, especially cats. Over the years she donated generously to animal shelters and was a magnet for stray cats, giving them meals and a warm place to sleep, sometimes even finding them forever homes.
Marga found it very rewarding to work along side her husband as a pastor’s wife in Oyen Alberta. They retired to Portage la Prairie in 1992 to be nearer to the children and grandchildren. Family was always most important to Marga and she found much fulfillment in her life through her times and interactions with her children and grandchildren. No one ever went home hungry as she always prepared their favorite meals and lovingly served them.
The immediate family will inter Marga at a later date and she will be laid to rest at beside Wolfgang at the Transcona Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Nagra, the Home Care staff for their exceptional and compassionate care and the Portage Palliative Care and the MAID team.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Marga’s memory to PAWS (Portage Animal Welfare Society) Box 1426, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3N9 or to Primate's World Relief and Development Fund, 80 Hayden Street, Toronto, Ont., M4Y 3G2
