Leo Louis Carpenter

Peacefully on Sunday, August 28th, 2022, Leo Carpenter passed away at the Portage and District General Hospital at the age of 82 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Lois, daughters Lorrie (David) Koroscil, Denise (Dean) Morisseau, granddaughters Jenna, Megan, Hailee, and Erin, brother George (Sharon), sisters Judy Davies and Valarie Cutting, sisters-in-law Margaret Carpenter, Linda Carpenter and Jeanine Carpenter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Leo was predeceased by his parents Henry and Beatrice Carpenter and step-father Napoleon Cote, brothers Roxy, Larry, Dennis, and Terry, brother-in-law George Davies and niece Tracy Carpenter.

Leo was born and raised in Portage la Prairie. He started working for the Department of Highways at a young age and remained there for over 35 years before retiring in 1996. Still looking to keep busy, he went on to work on a casual basis for Portage Agri-Sales and the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie for a few years.

Family was very important to Leo and nothing was more cherished than family get togethers with fiddle music, horseshoe challenges and the occasional beverage.  He also enjoyed gardening and maintaining his yard.  Leo was forever puttering in his yard or workshop and was able to build or fix anything his wife or daughters brought to him.

One of his favourite pastimes was the annual deer hunting trips with his brothers, nephews and in later years, his great nephews.   They would spend hours discussing their adventure and on occasion lament on “the one that got away”.

His greatest passion was his granddaughters; whether it was hockey, volleyball, triathlon or dance recitals, you could always find him in the crowd beaming with pride and cheering them on.

A Celebration of Leo’s life will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 1:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. The family requests that masks be worn during the service.  Family Interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in loving memory of Leo to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
