The Portage Terriers are in search of win number three tonight.
The Dogs are returning to Stride Place tonight as they welcome the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to town. Goaltender Bailey Monteith says he is looking forward to this set of back-to-back games against the Wolverines.
"I'm really excited. I know during my time in Virden last year, it was always fun playing Wayway. So, I'm really excited to play them this weekend."
Portage will be taking on a Waywayseecappo team that has yet to pick up a victory this season, however, both of their losses to the Virden Oil Capitals last weekend came in overtime.
The Wolverines' power-play has been impressive through two games but they will be taking on the league's best penalty kill when they come to Portage. Waywayseecappo has converted two of their seven attempts with the man advantage (tied for second best percentage in the MJHL), while the Terriers have killed off every penalty they've taken so far this season.
Forward Slade Stanick picked up a pair of goals in the Dogs' last outing, he describes what they've been working on in practice heading into this weekend.
"Just work more on systems. There are a lot of new guys on the team and not everyone knows exactly what is going on yet. With a little more system work and a little more team gelling, we'll just keep on rolling."
Monteith was traded to the Terriers just before training camp and says he's starting to realize how big of a deal it really is to dawn the uniform.
"I can just tell from my first couple of days here how important it is, not only to the town but with the history of the team as well. It's something special to wear the jersey. Every day, when you go to the rink and look up in the rafters, it's something to be proud of."
The goaltender adds this season should be special from game three this season all the way until May when they host the Centennial Cup. Puck drop for tonight's contest is set for 7:30
