Today is the last opportunity for Manitoba Junior Hockey League teams to shore up their rosters ahead of the playoffs. The Portage Terriers have made a set of three different moves in the past few days and have until 5 p.m. to continue to make changes.
The Dogs acquired 20-year-old forward Michael Stubbs from the Superior International Junior Hockey League's (SIJHL) Thunder Bay Northstars in exchange for future considerations. Portage also shipped out both Blake Boudreau and Hayden Chaloner for future considerations, Boudreau heading back to the Dauphin Kings and Chaloner going to play with the Winnipeg Freeze.
The final move made yesterday by Portage saw them acquire the CJHL list rights to 19-year-old forward Brock MacDonald from the OCN Blizzard in exchange for the list rights to Ty Genik.
Stubbs has two seasons of OHL experience with the Mississauga Steelheads and put up 12 points in his 98 games with the club. As a 16-year-old, Stubbs was one point shy of averaging a point-per-game with Thunder Bay.
MacDonald is currently playing with the Johnstown Tomahawks in the North American Hockey League and has one point in seven games. Last season with the Blizzard, MacDonald scored 36 points in 43 games.
Boudreau was only a Terrier for about a month as he was added on December 1st in a trade that saw Jamie Valentino become a King. In seven games with Portage, Boudreau scored a goal and dished out two assists. With Dauphin this season, the 19-year-old had 18 points in 20 games.
Chaloner has 11 points in 22 games as a Portage Terrier, and the 17-year-old has played nine contests with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL over the last two seasons.
The new-look Terriers will be in action twice at Stride Place this week, tomorrow against the Virden Oil Capitals and Friday, when they take on the Neepawa Titans.
