Steinbach emergency crews respond to a serious collision on the morning of January 11, 2023, on Highway 12 at the north end of the city. A vehicle collided with a snowmobile that was attempting to cross a highway.

A fatal collision on Wednesday morning has claimed the life of a 73-year-old man from Steinbach.
Emergency crews responded to the scene at approximately 7:40 a.m. after getting a report of a vehicle-snowmobile crash on Highway 12, near Clearsprings Road at the north end of Steinbach.
RCMP report the man attempted to cross the highway eastbound on his snowmobile when he was struck by a southbound pickup truck, being driven by a 45-year-old female from Ste. Anne.
Police note the man, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
They report the female driver of the pick-up truck was not physically injured.
Southbound lanes were closed for approximately 3.5 hours.
Steinbach RCMP continues to investigate.
