Joe Everett
With sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Joe Everett on January 10, 2023 at the age of 67 years.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Brenda Everett of 32 years; son Robert (Vicky) Lilley; step-son Lenny (Linda) Gladue and two other children; grandchildren Faith, Arthur, Samantha, Kyla, Chassidy and great grandchild Gillian; sister Sandra (Gerald); brother Marty (Gerri) Everett and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father Merle Everett, mother Elsie Lavalee and sister Carolynn Everett.
Joe was born on May 14, 1955 in New Brunswick but came to Portage la Prairie as a child. Later on in life he served in the Navy for many years. Once he returned he met the love of his life, Brenda, and married in the summer of 1990.
He worked at the MDC for 23 years as a health care aide until he retired in 2019. He was on the board of the Friendship Center, in addition, he was also a member and Elder of the Center.
Joe loved having coffee with friends, people watching, driving, playing bingo and cards, camping and especially being around those he loved. No matter what was going on, Joe was always there.
Visitation and Viewing will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. Memorial Service will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5 or the Portage Friendship Centre, 20 – 3rd Street NE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1N4.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.
