Robert Turko
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Turko at the Portage District General Hospital with family by his side. Bob passed on February 11, 2023, at the age of 83 years.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Fern; daughter Nicole and son Darcy (Nici); grandchildren Ethan (Kiandra) and Kylee; sister Janet and nephew Jeffrey (Barb); in-laws Thelma, Betty, Arnold (Val), Ivor, Garth (Tracey), Kelly, Sandra and Carol; along with many special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his granddaughter Samantha “Sammy”; parents John and Eva Turko; brother Jimmy; parents-in-law Norman and Evelyn Asham; nephews Arlan and Kevin; brothers-in-law Stephen Asham, Frank Davis and Albert Mousseau.
Bob was born on July 22, 1939, in Alonsa, MB. He grew up and attended school in Alonsa where he met Fern Asham and were married on July 8, 1967. They moved to Portage in 1966 when he began working at Campbell Soup until its closure. He then became employed at Portage Co-op and stayed there many years until his retirement. During his many years of employment Bob found the time to build his family home where he resided until his passing.
They were blessed with two loving children; Nicole and Darcy (Nici) along with three beautiful grandchildren.
His past times included camping, fishing, bowling, woodworking and playing cards with numerous friends. He loved watching his grandchildren play their various sports as they grew up.
Bob spent the last two months in the Portage District General Hospital and the family would like to thank the doctors and the staff for their support during this time.
A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery this spring.

A tree will be planted and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.
