The MNP Exhibition Building was filled with community members looking to help build back the Koko Platz Rec Centre over the weekend.
Board Member for the effort, Tanner Waldvogel, says it was a very successful fundraising event.
"We had a pile of community support, a lot of people came out, and we were able to raise a lot of money to put towards our cause."
Waldvogel adds that one thing you can always count on in Portage is that people will be willing to give back, especially for a good cause.
The Board Member explains that getting Koko Platz back to what it was, is near and dear to him because he wants the next generation to use the area as he did as a child.
Waldvogel notes that although they don't have the official number from the weekend's social, a rough estimate would be around $17,000 - 18,000 raised.
Koko Platz set a goal of $500,000 to rebuild the rink as a 4-season space and improve the building, as well as the space surrounding the existing rink last year. The group is well over half way to that mark.
