Gross, Mary Elizabeth - Passed away December 27, 2022 at The Foyer St. Joseph`s in Ponteix, Saskatchewan at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her parents Mary and Jacob Leugner, her husband Joseph Edward Gross, son Perry, grandson Axel, Son-in-law Ron her sisters Jacqueline and Geralyn brother-in-laws Sebastion, Jacob, Fred, Roy, Albert, Herman, George, Clarence, Robert and sister-in-law Marlene. She is survived by her daughters Cheryle and Judy, son Russell (Thelma); grandchildren Joe, Misty (Jason), TJ, Cordell (Brittany), Whitney and great grandchildren Abby and Cole; sisters Eva, Gloria, Doreen, Eleanor, Shirley, Louisa and Georgina; sister in laws Marg and Margaret. She was also loved and will be missed by many nieces and nephews and friends. Mary was born to Jacob and Mary Leugner on November 28, 1928 in Moose Jaw and lived with her family on a farm in the Spring Valley area. The eldest of 10 girls, Mary attended school, helped her dad with all of the outdoor farm chores and loved her horses and playing softball (the family could have their very own team). She married Joseph E Gross in 1947. They farmed 4 miles north of Kincaid and had 4 children Cheryle, Perry, Judy and Russell. Mom was used to hard work and toiled alongside her husband in the fields and raising the children. She got her bus driver license and became dad’s substitute driver. Mom was a fantastic cook and baker, she could put a full meal on the table in minutes and took great pleasure in hosting and feeding her guests. She cooked and baked with love and it was these special abilities that prompted the chair of the Kincaid hospital board to offer her a cooking position when our dad passed in 1979. She loved her job and was so proud to be a part of the Kincaid hospital staff until she retired in 1993. In 1999 she moved to Gull Lake to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren, while there she became a social butterfly. She met and made many friends when she joined the Senior Club. She was off playing cards each week at the senior centre, baking pies for pie socials the seniors hosted, traveling to many places for the Senior Games with her team of Military Whist friends winning many medals that she was so proud of. For the first time in her life, she had a Catholic Church within walking distance to her home and she was so happy to attend Mass most days. Mom was a crafter, she crocheted, knit, sewed, quilted and pretty well tried anything she saw in magazines or catalogues. She crafted up until she had trouble following patterns, then she turned to doing search a word and we had a hard time keeping her supplied with books. In 2017 mom moved to The Bentley in Swift Current to be near her other daughter, where she lived until early December when she went into hospital and then she was transferred to The Foyer St Joseph’s in Ponteix. She was excited to be able to attend Mass on a regular basis with the other residents and being close to Kincaid she was able to renew old acquaintances. Mom loved and was a great believer of carrying on family traditions and instilled that love with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
